I've been mulling this over the past few days. What is my style? What IS style?
I went to a few sites and looked at the different layouts. I really like how some sites have a variety of layouts for a specific kit. Not only does it give me ideas, but it really helped me figure out my style. Or, better yet, what I do and do not like.
One thing I discovered, but I really have known all along, is that my eye is drawn to bold bright colors. I also like simplicity. If it's too busy, my eye just kind of skims over it. Pastels....forget about it. Pastels are just washed out colors. I like my colors to stand out and take notice.
So on that vein, I prefer solid backgrounds to prints. Unless of course the prints are very subtle. I prefer a few embellishments to tons. I prefer white space. The layouts that really caught my eye were the ones with small photos and maybe a cluster or layers of ribbons, a small area of journaling, and lots of white space.
I'm sure my style will change. Normally in the fall months I really like earthy colors. Deep reds, oranges, and yellows. In the spring I tend to go for bright greens and pinks, and the summer is orange and purple. Winter might be blue and white, pale or dark blues. I know my style types will change as I grow into this hobby and I learn and experiment.
As far as project 365 goes, I did 2 layouts. I'm wavering between taking the photos on that day and dong the page on the next day. The reasoning behind this is simple: I don't want to miss any photo opportunities and I like to do my scrapping in the mornings when the kids are at school. I might do this option as long as I take a photo a day and try to scrap it.
Here is my first attempt. I took a quick photo of myself and it's far from great. I used paper and elements from the Digichick.
I'm not too happy with this one. It feels...awkward. I guess that's why I did another layout that I am happy with. The next layout is a photo I took the day before and there is a funny story behind it. I know scrapping it will always remind me of the story, and I guess that's what it's supposed to do!
I really like this layout much better. It looks more finished and the colors go well together. And the little touches like the stitching on the mat make the photo pop. I erased some of the journaling to make it look more authentic like it belongs right on the paper. And I erased the ribbon to make it appear that it's going behind the photo. Nice, huh?
Have a great day!
